About The Position

High Tech Elementary Chula Vista is seeking an English Learner (EL) Teacher to provide instructional support for students identified as English Learners. This role involves co-teaching, small group instruction, and consultation with classroom teachers, while modeling diversity, equity, and inclusion and culturally responsive pedagogy. The EL Teacher will also conduct required testing, monitor student growth, support outreach, communications, ELAC committees, and professional development. HTH is a network of charter schools guided by principles of equity, personalization, authentic work, and collaborative design.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of research supporting development of EL students, ELD standards and EL supports and testing within California public schools.
  • Experience accelerating student learning and achievement.
  • Experience and desire to use data and technology as levers to drive instruction.
  • Experienced classroom teachers.
  • Knowledge of state requirements for testing and supporting EL students.
  • Growth mindset and ability to use feedback to refine practice.
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Valid California Teaching Credential or ability to attain one based on out of state certification
  • CLAD, BCLAD, or English Learner Authorization

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional support for students identified as English Learners in various settings including co-teaching, small group instruction, and consultation with classroom teachers.
  • Demonstrate diversity, equity, and inclusion and model culturally responsive pedagogy.
  • Conduct all required testing for English Learners.
  • Monitor student growth and progress toward goals.
  • Support outreach and communications related to EL students and families.
  • Participate in ELAC committees.
  • Provide professional development to staff regarding ELD needs.
  • Coordinate ELPAC testing and complete all annual training modules for the Initial and Summative assessment.
  • Send all required state communications to families regarding student language classification status.
  • Assist in the reclassification process ensuring all documentation is completed according to state requirements.
  • Review student assessment data to inform practices and curriculum development for integrated support within core teacher classrooms.
  • Utilize California ELD standards and assessment data to plan for designated support.
  • Monitor student progress data to share with stakeholders.
  • Support administration of the CSA for the State Seal of Biliteracy (high school specific).
  • Present information at ELAC meetings.
  • Advocate for students and families and build collaborative relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Respond to all family communications, identify resources and supports, and disseminate information about school program offerings.
  • Lead the school in becoming more responsive to ELD needs by providing PD and announcements to staff.
  • Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the School Director.
