About The Position

This role involves tutoring nonnative English speakers from ESL courses in weekly one-on-one sessions to help them improve their English skills in speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary. Tutors will also assist students with class assignments, exam preparation, and cultural adjustment to life in the U.S. Responsibilities include submitting weekly progress reports, meeting with the supervisor, and attending paid training sessions.

Requirements

• Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
• Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program (or pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester if only working in the summer).
• Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
• Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
• A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA (students in their first semester are exempt).
• In good disciplinary standing.
• Must be located in the U.S.
• Fluent in English, with strong written and spoken English.
• A grade of B+ or higher in a college-level writing class (including LENG-111: Introduction to College Writing), or a score of 4 or higher on an AP English test.
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others.
• Ability to stay organized, manage a schedule, and submit reports on time.

Responsibilities

• Partner with a cohort of nonnative English speakers from an ESL course throughout the semester.
• Help students develop their English skills in weekly one-on-one tutoring sessions.
• Improve language skills in all areas (speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary).
• Assist students with class assignments and preparing for exams.
• Help students adjust culturally to life in the U.S.
• Submit weekly tutoring progress reports.
• Meet with the English Skills Tutor Supervisor.
• Attend paid training sessions as required.
