About The Position

BookNook is seeking USA-based tutors to provide virtual reading support to students in grades K–8 across the United States. Tutors meet with students in consistent, recurring weekly sessions during the school year, generally September through May. Sessions are most often 30 minutes and use provided lesson content and practice extension materials, so tutors do not need to prepare lessons. Tutors choose the grade levels they support and may have the option to add math after onboarding. Tutors are encouraged to be available at least one hour on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM ET. Tutoring opportunities and hours can vary from week to week, and tutors may claim sessions outside that window. There are no weekly minimum-hours requirements, but tutors are expected to attend at least 80% of the sessions they claim. A peer tutor may claim a session that a tutor drops from their calendar. This is a 1099-eligible independent contractor role. Pay is $20 per hour, or $10 per 30-minute session, with possible seasonal incentive payments. Applicants may be asked to submit a five-minute one-way recorded demonstration using sample BookNook reading lesson content. Successful applicants who accept an offer complete onboarding, including setting up a payment account, obtaining a clear result on an in-person fingerprint-based FBI background check, and completing paid, self-paced tutor certification.
