About The Position

Wethersfield Public Schools is seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to serve as an English Learner (EL) Tutor at Corpus Christi School. The primary focus is to assist English Learners in the development of English language skills and the acquisition of academic concepts. The tutor will help provide an effective and comprehensive education for English language learners so they can acquire English language proficiency and function successfully in academic and social settings. The tutor will support students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade, to help gain English language proficiency through listening, speaking, reading and writing activities.

Requirements

  • Hold minimum of an Associates' Degree.
  • Ability to work with students in a classroom, small group, and/or one-on-one environment.
  • Ability to follow coordinator/teacher/staff directions with respect to instruction, assessment, and programming.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Computer software skills such as Word, Excel, Google Apps, and comfort with assorted web-based software programs.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Enthusiasm for helping children.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and demonstrate a growth mindset.
  • Respectful attitude.
  • Ability to manage plans and drive positive results.
  • Patience, flexibility and adaptability.

Nice To Haves

  • Teacher certification is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide English Learner instruction and academic support through the implementation of the EL curriculum.
  • Work directly with students to provide one-on-one, small group instruction or push into classrooms.
  • Monitor student progress; record student performance data to review with EL coordinator.
  • Provide students with positive feedback and encouragement.
  • Foster a positive learning environment that is sensitive to diverse cultural backgrounds and individual student needs.
  • Provide teacher consultation.
  • Provide LAS/Standardized testing support.
  • Provide support for all aspects of a student's day (class schedule, meal periods, etc.).
  • Attend professional development sessions related to EL instruction and materials.
