About The Position

These year-round services include tutoring, counseling, mentoring, developmental courses, and social/enrichment activities. The ELA Teacher will provide instruction and tutorial services in English Language Arts (ELA) during the LPP Saturday and after-school program at John Adams High School and the SJU campus on Saturdays.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in education.
  • State certification or college teaching experience.
  • Three years of teaching experience at the secondary or collegiate level.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of NYS Learning Standards and Common Core.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate youth.
  • Deep-rooted passion in serving students and helping them achieve their goals.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference given to an educator who currently serves as a full-time teacher at any of our target high schools.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic instruction and tutoring in the areas of English Language Arts (ELA).
  • Prepare students for the NYS Regents and the college application essay.
  • Manage SAT prep and homework assistance.
  • Aid the student in preparing for the transition to college, including assisting in preparing a personal statement for college entry.
  • Collaborate with High School Liaisons and/or school personnel to design and implement academic interventions for students.
  • Assist in coordinating tutorial services, conducting tutorial training, and supervising tutorial staff.
  • Exhibit great classroom management skills that enable learning for all students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Director.
