These year-round services include tutoring, counseling, mentoring, developmental courses, and social/enrichment activities. The ELA Teacher will provide instruction and tutorial services in English Language Arts (ELA) during the LPP Saturday and after-school program at John Adams High School and the SJU campus on Saturdays.

Requirements

Master’s degree in education.
State certification or college teaching experience.
Three years of teaching experience at the secondary or collegiate level.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of NYS Learning Standards and Common Core.
Ability to inspire and motivate youth.
Deep-rooted passion in serving students and helping them achieve their goals.

Nice To Haves

Preference given to an educator who currently serves as a full-time teacher at any of our target high schools.

Responsibilities

Provide academic instruction and tutoring in the areas of English Language Arts (ELA).
Prepare students for the NYS Regents and the college application essay.
Manage SAT prep and homework assistance.
Aid the student in preparing for the transition to college, including assisting in preparing a personal statement for college entry.
Collaborate with High School Liaisons and/or school personnel to design and implement academic interventions for students.
Assist in coordinating tutorial services, conducting tutorial training, and supervising tutorial staff.
Exhibit great classroom management skills that enable learning for all students.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Director.
