About The Position

Brandywine Community Schools is seeking a dynamic and energetic ELA teacher for the 26/27 school year who maintains a positive learning environment, holds high academic expectations, and teaches the fundamental principles of English and language arts. The Secondary ELA Teacher plays a vital role in fostering a rigorous, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where students can thrive. This position is responsible for guiding middle and high school students as they refine their critical thinking, reading comprehension, analytical writing, and oral communication skills, ultimately preparing them for future academic and personal success.

Requirements

• Knowledge of differentiated instruction, accommodations, and modifications
• Knowledge of evidence-based academic and behavioral interventions
• Familiarity with assistive technology and inclusive instructional tools
• Strong classroom and behavior management skills using proactive and restorative practices
• Ability to maintain detailed records and documentation in compliance with legal requirements
• Ability to interpret assessment data and use it to inform instruction and monitor progress
• Effective communication skills with students, families, colleagues, and community partners
• Ability to foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment
• Ability to maintain favorable public relations and represent the district professionally
• Possession of a valid Michigan teaching certificate with an English (BA) or Language Arts (BX) endorsement
• Bachelor’s degree in a field accepted by the Michigan Department of Education

Responsibilities

• Teaches secondary school courses
• Plans education schedules for students in accordance with their previous education, abilities, interests and needs
• Counsels students on general behavior, citizenship, personal problems and vocational interests
• Prepares lesson plans, determines methods of presentation, and prepares tests
• Marks tests and records grades
• Directs helpers and tutors in instruction methods and the preparation of tools
• Oversees study groups
• Participates in staff discussion on individual cases
• Supervises students assigned by colleges for practice teaching
• Maintains records and prepares reports and correspondence related to the work
• Performs related work as assigned
• Participates in grade-level/content team meetings and collaborative planning sessions
• Uses data to plan, differentiate, and adjust instruction to meet the needs of all learners
• Incorporates technology to enhance instruction and foster student engagement
• Maintains consistent communication with families regarding academic progress, behavior, and classroom activities
• Provides specially designed instruction to students with disabilities as outlined in IEPs
• Participates in and facilitates IEP meetings, METs, and other required student support meetings
• Collaborates with general education teachers to support inclusion and co-teaching practices
• Assesses student needs through formal and informal assessments and progress monitoring
• Differentiates instruction and provides accommodations/modifications based on student needs
• Implements behavior support plans, social-emotional interventions, and positive behavior strategies
• Communicates regularly with families regarding student progress and support strategies
• Participates in school-wide data teams and MTSS/RTI processes
• Supports students in accessing the general education curriculum and extracurricular activities
• Participates in professional development and district training related to special education
• Supervises and supports paraprofessionals and classroom aides, where applicable
• Performs other related duties as assigned
