About The Position

Clovis Community College is seeking to establish a part-time faculty pool for English Instructors. This position involves teaching English courses and contributing to the college's mission of providing quality education and support to a diverse student population. The role requires an equity-minded approach to instruction, focusing on supporting students from various backgrounds and addressing historical patterns of exclusion in higher education.

Requirements

  • Responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Equity-minded practice within the classroom.
  • Master's in English, Literature, Comparative Literature, or Composition; OR Bachelor's in any of the above and master's in Linguistics, TESL, Speech, Education with a specialization in Reading, Creative Writing or Journalism; OR A valid California Community College Credential; OR The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom.
  • Related work and professional experience.
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, students with disabilities.
  • Experience working with traditionally underrepresented student populations, such as students of color and foster youth.
  • Experience with, and sensitivity to, under-prepared and high-need students at the community college.
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to work collaboratively with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, student learning support and student success.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies, which are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials.
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Responsibilities

  • Incorporate elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
  • Support racially minoritized students in the classroom and understand how historical patterns of exclusion shape participation and outcomes.
  • Examine and remediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices to effectively engage and support racially minoritized students.
  • Facilitate multicultural and cross-cultural communication with sensitivity to diverse backgrounds.
  • Support under-prepared and high-need students at the community college.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, student learning support, and student success.
  • Utilize computers and other technologies for high-quality instruction and student support.
  • Communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Apply current assessment methods and materials.
