About The Position

PAVE Academy Charter School is a public charter school in Red Hook, Brooklyn, NY. PAVE provides a K-8 experience that lays the foundation for a productive and choice-filled life. We build our students brick by brick, equipping them with the academic, social, and emotional skills that they need to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, overcomers and leaders in their communities. PAVE educates 490 Kindergarten – 8th-grade scholars each school year. Across our student population, 85 percent of our students are eligible for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program (FRLP); 25 percent receive special education services, and 15 percent are English Language Learners (ELL). PAVE Red Hook is seeking a certified Special Education teacher to serve as an Elementary School Intervention Specialist (Special Education Teacher Support Services – SETSS) for the 2025–2026 school year. The Intervention Specialist will play a key role in supporting students with IEPs through both in-class and out-of-class services, ensuring they make meaningful academic progress towards proficiency. This educator will collaborate with staff to meet diverse learning needs, deliver high-quality instruction, and maintain compliance with all SETSS mandates outlined in students’ IEPs. In addition to providing targeted small-group instruction within inclusive classroom settings, the Intervention Specialist will assist in managing the administrative and regulatory components of the Special Education program. This position reports to the Dean of Student Support Services and the Principal.

Responsibilities

  • Use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices to create small group instructional strategies driven decision-making
  • Provide direct ENL instruction to small groups of students and/or provide inclusion support for ELA classes containing Emergent Bilinguals, based on case load
  • Advise teachers and provide professional development on modifying/accommodating curriculum for Emergent Bilinguals and share best practices to ensure high quality instruction
  • Build a warm and inclusive classroom environment, implementing the practices of Responsive Classroom
  • Coordinate the case management system of students who are being provided with ENL services and maintain student records
  • Evaluate, determine goals for, and track progress of individual Emergent Bilinguals, and communicate with faculty, students and families.
  • Support with the identification of ENL services
  • Utilize formal and informal assessment data to drive instruction and ensure student mastery of language standards/objectives
  • Create and maintain strong relationships with students and families
  • Administer diagnostic and state mandated assessments of Emergent Bilinguals including NYSITELL and NYSESLAT
  • Actively participate in grade-level meetings, collaborative planning, and professional development, including an annual summer institute
  • Accept ultimate responsibility for the academic progress of students, and work to actively overcome setbacks
  • Ensure that PAVE is in compliance with the requirements and regulations relating to Emergent Bilinguals
