About The Position

Northeast Wisconsin Technical College is seeking an innovative and leading-edge instructor dedicated to student success. The primary purpose of this role is to design engaging instruction and assessment to foster learner success, continually improving the quality of learning delivery to support college outcomes. Instructors work in alignment with the college’s mission, vision, core values, and operating principles, providing service to the college community through teamwork, committee involvement, and shared leadership. Instructors are also expected to commit to ongoing professional growth in both instructional and technical areas and to support the development of colleagues and teams. New faculty are required to complete the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College Instructor Preparation Academy during their first three years of employment, which covers teaching and learning strategies, guidance and counseling, curriculum development, assessment, diversity, and more.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electro-mechanical, Automation Technology, or related field.
  • Five years of related work experience. At a minimum, occupational or educational experience must have occurred at least 1 year within the last 5 years.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: electronics, industrial automation, controls systems (e.g., PLCs and HMIs), communications, or the design, programming, and operation of equipment in manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience using a learning management system (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, D2L Brightspace) or the ability to quickly learn comparable instructional technology platforms.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the districts standard insurance policy terms.
  • Subject to pre-employment drug testing in accordance with College policy.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and continually revise curriculum, adapting it to college delivery standards, strategic directions, employer/advisory feedback, and industry/regulatory standards. This includes Open Educational Resources (OER), textbook changes, assessment plans, credit for prior learning assessment tools, and employability skills.
  • Utilize engaging instructional strategies and methodologies to foster student success both in and outside of the classroom.
  • Create learning experiences integrating multiple alternative or emerging delivery methodologies and instructional technologies (hybrid, face-to-face, video conferencing, self-paced, online) to maximize student success.
  • Provide immediate, routine, and consistent feedback to students to assist them in improving performance in technical and core ability competencies.
  • Create a learning environment integrating best practices for student success, including authentic service learning, student club events, and engagement in profession-specific activities.
  • Develop, support, participate, and collaborate with other departments on student recruitment, program marketing, and student referral for success strategies (tutoring, counseling, advising, etc.).
  • Use data to measure quality outcomes (student persistence, retention, completion rate, course success) and design improvement strategies based on evidence.
  • Comply with College policies and practices related to instruction, assessment, and delivery.
  • Engage with business and industry through participation in advisory committees, including recruitment of new members, planning meetings, community group participation, and business visits.
  • Participate in community and college-sponsored events to promote college programs and enhance community relationships.
  • Engage in division, department, and team meetings and requirements, including contributing to the college’s strategic planning through team action plans and budget requests.
  • Maintain proficient knowledge and skill in emerging trends and current occupational practices by networking with regional industry leaders and participating in continuing education and professional development.
  • Assist in the development of adjunct faculty through communication, resource sharing, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements, faculty progression structure requirements, and licensure required by other agencies for individual and program accreditation.
  • Teach in an open lab environment for Engineering Technologies programs, answering learner questions and providing on-the-spot learning moments on Electro-Mech, Automation, and Electrical Engineering competencies.
  • Work to provide clear Engineering Technology pathways and subsequent partnerships with secondary education.
  • Support Corporate Training and Economic Development (CTED) for up to 57% of the role, allocating workload hours to support CTED Automation and Engineering training needs by delivering credit-bearing and customized training, developing proposals, collaborating with account managers, and coordinating equipment, resources, and project requirements.
  • Provide educational leadership and work effectively with advisory committees, four-year articulation partners, community groups, faculty, and administration.
  • Manage classroom and shop/lab to ensure a productive and safe learning environment.
  • Provide CTED training in evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Travel within the NWTC region to provide CTED training.
