About The Position

Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Engineering Technician – Level 2/Level 3 to join our team in Magna, UT. The Engineering Technician is responsible for performing a wide variety of chemical and physical analyses on various inert and energetic materials to assess acceptability against defined requirements. Testing ranges from traditional mechanical evaluations to advanced analytical chemistry techniques to physical property evaluations. The successful candidate will work with experienced chemists and technicians who operate analytical test equipment including chromatographic and spectroscopic instruments, viscometers, titrators, particle size analyzers, mechanical testing instruments, and various other instruments and laboratory equipment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience (for Level 2)
  • High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years additional education and/or related experience (for Level 3)
  • No clearance required to start
  • Intermediate/Advanced computer and software competencies are desirable
  • Flexibility to periodically work swing shifts and weekends when required
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for all positions with a government clearance and certain other restricted positions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the use of scientific instrumentation and equipment is desirable
  • Prefer a candidate with a minimum of an Associate’s Degree or 2 years of college with demonstrable chemistry or other STEM coursework

Responsibilities

  • Perform burn rate, viscosity, and other chemical and physical properties testing on propellants and propellant ingredients
  • Perform advanced analytical testing using techniques such as HPLC, titration, specific gravity measurements, ICP analysis, GC, Hardness testing, and particle size analysis for various materials and chemicals.
  • Fabricate specimens and chemical mixtures and perform testing on inert materials such as rubber, composites, and adhesives
  • Perform limited maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and calibration of instruments and processes
  • Maintain laboratory infrastructure including sample preparation, and equipment set-up and breakdown
  • Candidate will be expected to maintain a high standard of operational discipline to support clean, safe, and efficient operations
