About The Position

MATSYS, Inc. is seeking an Engineering Technician to support its state-of-the-art high energy ball milling operation. They will work alongside scientists and engineers to collaboratively develop and produce advanced material compositions for wide-ranging applications at the cutting-edge of materials science research. This position will be responsible for operating and maintaining equipment associated with powder milling to align with project schedules and company goals. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience operating and maintaining complex mechanical systems, meticulous record-keeping ability, and an unwavering commitment to safety. The successful candidate will be hired as an Engineering Technician I, II, or III, based on experience and skillset.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 18 years of age or more
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience operating and maintaining machinery (i.e., CNC lathes, mills, turbines, engines, etc.)
  • Ability to work with computers and operating software
  • Willingness to support operations outside standard duties when needed
  • Ability to lift and manipulate 50 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Background in powder processing, including sieving, blending (e.g., turbula), and packing.
  • Experience working with liquid nitrogen or cryogenic cooling systems.
  • Familiarity with equipment containing rotors and drive shafts.
  • Experience operating and maintaining gloveboxes or working in inert environments.
  • Proficiency with inspection and monitoring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, scales, pressure transducers).
  • Knowledge of working with fine metal powders.
  • Related 2-year degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Operate powder production equipment, including ball mills, gloveboxes, vacuum systems, and liquid nitrogen processes.
  • Work closely with scientists, engineers, and management to develop novel formulations and produce materials aligned with project goals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of process data to support workflows.
  • Communicate effectively with engineering and management to ensure smooth scheduling and delivery.
  • Adhere to strict safety protocols, mitigating risks associated with metal powders, flammable materials, and liquid nitrogen.
  • Perform regular maintenance and cleanouts of equipment for optimal and safe operation.
  • Assist in the development of consolidation, milling, and manufacturing processes by preparing materials for testing, assembling components, and supporting welding and machining operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
