As an Engineering Technician with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), you will play a key role in supporting vital construction projects that impact travelers every day. Requirements

  • An associate degree in surveying, drafting, designing, civil, or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with reviewing road and bridge construction activities to confirm compliance with specifications
  • Observe and check materials such as concrete, bituminous products, and drainage components
  • Support visual testing of soils, aggregates, and subsurface layers to confirm proper compaction
  • Record diary entries, calculations, quantities, and sketches using manual or electronic systems
  • Help produce reports, track progress, and monitor material quantities using software tools
  • Communicate with staff, agencies, and contractors and assist in resolving issues encountered in the field
