A Day in the Life The Engineering Technician V will help develop products and processes at the Medtronic Energy and Component Center (MECC) for the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) business. This position supports the day-to-day operation of the lab – monitoring ongoing tests, initiating new tests, and maintaining a variety of electrical and mechanical test equipment. Additionally, they also support R&D prototype builds for electrochemical cells - batteries and capacitors. Our Cardiac Rhythm Management Operating Unit offers devices and therapies that treat patients with abnormal heart rhythms and heart failure. It is comprised of four key businesses: Cardiac Pacing Therapies, Defibrillation Solutions, Cardiovascular Diagnostics & Services, and Patient Care Systems. Together, we will transform the lives of people with cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure. At Medtronic, we put patients first in everything we do. In-person exchanges are invaluable to our work. This role will require less than 10% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.

Requirements

  • Requires minimum of 15 years of relevant experience; may require vocational or technical education or certification in addition to prior work experience
  • High School Diploma or GED is required

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in a technical program or other technical training/certification
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing environment (preferably medical manufacturing)
  • 10+ years of advanced solder skills
  • Experience with PCBA design and layout using Altium
  • Experience using mechanical CAD tools like SolidWorks
  • Basic programming experience (LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python, .NET)
  • 10+ years of troubleshooting skills in mechanical and/or electrical systems
  • Familiar with Arbin, Maccor, or other similar commercially available battery test equipment

Responsibilities

  • Set up test equipment and conduct tests of engineering samples following methods, procedures, standards, and sequences
  • Monitor ongoing tests and analyze results for expected behavior and investigate abnormalities
  • Analyze data using data visualization and statistical analysis software (e.g., JMP, Tableau, Minitab)
  • Troubleshoot and repair a variety of electrical and mechanical test equipment
  • Design (SolidWorks/CAD), build, and repair electrical and mechanical fixtures with soldering work
  • Design (Altium), layout, and build test boards and fixtures according to designs and specifications
  • Support equipment calibrations by Medtronic Metrology staff as needed
  • Modify equipment by adding, removing, or altering components as defined by predetermined diagrams and sketches
  • Build R&D prototype electrochemical cells according to designs and procedures
  • Use hand and small power tools, and testing devices in performing job duties
  • Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures
