On the Kennedy Propellants and Life Support Services (KPLSS II) program on Kennedy Space Center FL, perform non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project. This role involves selecting and adapting plans, techniques, designs, or layouts, contacting personnel in related activities to resolve problems and coordinate work, and reviewing, analyzing, and integrating the technical work of others. The supervisor or a professional engineer will outline objectives, requirements, and design approaches, and the completed work will be reviewed for technical adequacy and satisfaction of requirements. This position may also train and be assisted by lower-level technicians. The Engineering Technician V performs one or a combination of the essential responsibilities, which include designing, developing, and constructing major units, devices, or equipment; conducting tests or experiments; analyzing results and redesigning or modifying equipment to improve performance; and reporting results. From general guidelines and specifications (e.g., size or weight requirements), this role develops designs for equipment without critical performance requirements that are difficult to satisfy, such as engine parts, research instruments, or special purpose circuitry. The technician analyzes technical data to determine applicability to design problems, selects from several possible design layouts, calculates design data, and prepares layouts, detailed specifications, parts lists, estimates, and procedures. They may also check and analyze drawings or equipment to determine the adequacy of drawings and design. Additionally, the role involves planning or assisting in planning tests to evaluate equipment performance, determining test requirements, equipment modification, and test procedures; conducting tests using all types of instruments; and analyzing and evaluating test results, preparing reports on findings and recommendations.
