About The Position

The Engineering, Traffic and Survey (ETS) Division of the Department of Land Use and Transportation is recruiting for an Engineering Technician II opening. The Engineering Technician II performs a variety of tasks associated with the design, construction, and/or maintenance of the County's transportation infrastructure. Tasks may include, but are not limited to, analysis of traffic related requests from the public, inspection, data collection, report writing, and emergency response. An Engineering Technician II must possess excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing. They are responsible for tracking down relevant information and data necessary to fully understand public requests, to perform analysis of requests, and to explain the results and recommendations from their analysis to supervisors, engineers and the public. They will also be asked to complete inspections for signing and striping work on County roads to ensure compliance with plans and specifications. Engineering Technicians must be able to work independently or as part of a team. They must be able to problem solve and look for opportunities for improvement. Technicians must be comfortable working with a diverse group of stakeholders including engineers, developers, utilities, contractors, community members and staff from other government agencies. This position is represented by the Teamsters labor organization.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of responsible experience in road construction, road construction inspection, construction management, civil engineering, traffic engineering, or surveying, and work experience in an office or field setting
  • An Associate's Degree in civil engineering or related field
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to problem solve
  • A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Civil Engineering, specifically Traffic Engineering and Operations
  • Experience with construction or inspection of infrastructure assets within a government agency
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Ability to collect data and prepare complete and accurate reports
  • Ability to work independently to conduct field investigations and complete multiple duties with competing priorities
  • Knowledge of applicable county, state, and federal guidelines related to traffic engineering and the installation of traffic control devices
