About The Position

Employee in this position will serve as an Engineering Technician II in the Asheboro District Office. Position will provide technical and functional support to District Engineer and Assistant District Engineers in administering programs of a three-county district involved in the maintenance of roads, minor improvement projects, and resurfacing projects. Primary duties include encroachment review and inspection, driveway permit review, contract administration and inspection, surveying, design, developing resurfacing contracts, and various other duties as assigned. Employee in this position may be required to serve as a project inspector or assist the survey party. These duties will include conducting independent moderate to complex inspection or survey party work for roadway and structure construction process and material to assure compliance with contract agreements, standard and specifications.

Requirements

  • Ability to evaluate and apply engineering judgment to plan interpretation
  • Establish positive lines of communication between technicians, engineers, and contractors
  • Ability to work safely in outdoor environments with exposure to extreme temperatures and construction site hazards such as traffic, heights, and uneven terrain
  • Moderate physical activity including walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Ability to legally operate a state vehicle
  • Associate degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge and understanding of NCDOT highway and bridge construction
  • Skill in evaluating and applying engineering judgment to construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures
  • Experience with contract administration
  • Working knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment, software and mathematical functions
