About The Position

This posting is for an Engineering Technician I in the Division Survey Office. This is an entry level position supporting higher level engineers and technicians located in the Division Survey Office, which covers Alamance, Caswell, Guilford, Orange and Rockingham Counties. This position performs technical duties supporting engineers and other professionals in areas such as construction inspection, materials testing, project surveying, and program/regulatory compliance. Work functions may include: inspection for compliance with contract documents, standards, and specifications; testing of materials; review of plans; analysis of engineering-related data; and construction survey/layout. Daily duties will include keeping diaries on project operations, completing various material reports, documenting pay records, performing construction calculation, and computer/iPad entry.

Requirements

  • Applicant must be able to perform construction related mathematical calculations.
  • Applicant will be required to acquire various certifications, including QMS Asphalt, Concrete Testing, Borrow Pit Sampling and OSHA Certifications.
  • Employee must be able to maintain these and all required certifications to perform the duties of this position.
  • Applicant must be able to perform concrete tests requiring lifting buckets of concrete and perform density tests on soils and aggregates requiring digging, weighing, and measuring volumes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive lines of communication between other technicians, engineers, contractors, and the general public.
  • Employee must be able to lift 50lbs, work in high traffic areas, work at heights over water or traffic, work in extreme temperatures, traverse uneven terrain, and work at night, weekends and holidays if necessary.
  • Selected candidates will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle.
  • Safety toe shoes required.
  • Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
