About The Position

The Engineering Technician – Structural Test supports the setup, operation, and maintenance of full-scale aircraft structural fatigue testing systems. This role bridges engineering design and hands-on execution by building and instrumenting test articles, operating hydraulic and data acquisition systems, and ensuring accurate, traceable test results in accordance with aerospace standards.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in engineering technology or related field preferred, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in structural testing, aerospace manufacturing, or similar environment
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and test schematics
  • Hands-on experience with hydraulic systems and high-load mechanical assemblies
  • Familiarity with strain measurement and instrumentation installation techniques
  • Experience with data acquisition systems and test equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation discipline
  • Ability to work in a high-risk, high-consequence test environment
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to lift up to [XX] pounds
  • Ability to work around large structures and in confined or elevated areas

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Test Rig Setup & Integration: Assist in the assembly and installation of full-scale structural fatigue test rigs. Install and align fixtures, load frames, actuators, and reaction structures. Route and secure hydraulic lines, electrical wiring, and instrumentation cabling. Support setup of aircraft structures within the test fixture (fuselage, wing, empennage, etc.).
  • Instrumentation & Data Acquisition: Install and verify strain gauges, LVDTs, load cells, pressure transducers, and other sensors. Support setup and configuration of data acquisition (DAQ) systems. Perform sensor calibration checks and ensure proper signal integrity. Maintain accurate channel mapping and documentation.
  • Test Operations: Operate hydraulic systems and fatigue cycling equipment under engineer direction. Monitor test parameters, system performance, and safety limits during operation. Execute test procedures and log results in accordance with test plans. Respond to alarms, anomalies, or system faults during testing.
  • Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Diagnose issues with hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems. Perform routine and corrective maintenance on actuators, pumps, valves, and fixtures. Support root cause investigations of test anomalies or equipment failures. Repair or replace components as required.
  • Documentation & Configuration Control: Maintain test logs, calibration records, and build/configuration documentation. Ensure strict adherence to configuration control and revision management. Document discrepancies, nonconformance, and corrective actions.
  • Engineering Support: Interpret engineering drawings, test plans, and schematics. Provide feedback on fixture design, instrumentation layout, and testability. Assist engineers with test setup changes and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Lab / Facility Operations: Maintain cleanliness and organization of the test facility. Ensure all equipment is properly calibrated and within certification. Follow all safety protocols, especially related to high-load and hydraulic systems.
