Engineering Tech (Draft)

Veterans Health Administration•Tampa, FL

About The Position

The Engineering Tech serves as the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) for assigned construction projects and leases at a complex medical facility. The role applies engineering knowledge and practical familiarity with heating and air conditioning, structural systems, and building performance. The incumbent must possess and maintain relevant VA certifications, such as COR and FAC-FEC. Projects may involve architectural remodeling; mechanical, plumbing, and electrical system upgrades or replacements; hazardous-material abatement; installation of complex systems such as elevators and security/access-control systems; and construction of buildings, structures, and infrastructure. The incumbent prepares and oversees plans, specifications, estimates, and schedules; reviews medical-center needs and recommends project scope; and coordinates projects from conception through completion. Work includes preparing and reviewing designs and project documents, administering design and construction contracts, inspecting work, addressing deviations, and coordinating with facility staff, consultants, and contractors. Most work takes place in a well-lit, temperature- and sound-controlled office. On-site construction inspections may expose the incumbent to weather, dirt, and dust. The position requires the ability to climb, crawl, walk, stoop, sit, and stand, and compliance with applicable safety codes and manuals. The stated work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
