This role is for an Engineering Systems Administrator who will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining computer systems and peripheral equipment, ensuring operational efficiency, stability, security, and data integrity. The position involves responding to outages, performing application administration (user creation/modification/deletion, remote access optimization, security access for various systems), and coordinating software/hardware/OS updates. The role also includes developing and enhancing processes and technical documentation, creating backup procedures, and providing escalation support. A key aspect of this role is the automation of application administration activities using scripting or automated tools like PowerShell, VBScript, Group Policy, or third-party solutions for user account management and other administrative tasks. The administrator will also develop system methodologies for monitoring and evaluating systems, modify existing software, consult with engineering staff, support application software platforms, document IT activities, and potentially build new computer systems. Staying updated on emerging technologies and security trends is crucial, including applying security patches and hardening operating systems according to HAEA policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent of 5-7+ years experience in a position with similar responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain the organization's computer systems and associated peripheral equipment.
  • Maintain operating efficiency and stability of computer systems.
  • Ensure the security and integrity of all systems and data.
  • Respond to outages and other system issues.
  • Perform application administration activities such as creating, modifying, and deleting users, optimizing remote access, and security access for messaging systems, databases, and web applications.
  • Coordinate with department leadership to plan, design, and schedule the release of all software, hardware, and operating system updates.
  • Develop and enhance processes and technical documentation.
  • Create back-up procedures, test plans, and reports.
  • Prioritize and respond to requests for service.
  • Provide escalation support to helpdesk staff.
  • Automate application administration activities using scripts or automated tools (e.g., PowerShell, VBScript, Group Policy, third-party solutions) for tasks like creating, modifying, and deleting user accounts.
  • Develop system methodologies to monitor and evaluate in-place systems and applications, and initiate necessary repairs, updates, and changes.
  • Independently modify existing software to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, or upgrade interfaces and improve performance.
  • Consult with engineering staff and users to evaluate interface between hardware and software, develop and implement specifications and performance requirements, and resolve customer problems.
  • Support and administer various applications software platforms.
  • Document IT activities such as downtime, problems, and systems configurations.
  • Coordinate, manage, and/or build new computer systems for special purposes.
  • Remain abreast of emerging technology and maintain technical competency of IT infrastructure.
  • Keep abreast and aware of latest security trends and participate in regular security activities.
  • Ensure operating systems are kept updated per HAEA security policies and procedures, including applying tested security patches.
  • Routinely harden operating systems.
