Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Cartography, Engineering, Computer Science or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of GIS and AutoCAD experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License: With proof of automobile insurance
  • Background Check: Must have an acceptable background record
  • Driving Abstract: Must have an acceptable driving record
  • Considerable knowledge of and proficiency in the use of computer hardware, including desktop PCs, GPS Handhelds, scanners, and plotters.
  • Considerable knowledge of MS Office, AutoCAD and GIS.
  • Considerable knowledge of ESRI ArcCatalog and ArcMap software, and AutoCAD.
  • Considerable knowledge of principles and practices engineering design, and ability to read and interpret Civil Engineering as-built drawings.
  • Knowledge of the elementary principles and practices of engineering design.
  • Ability to make independent investigations related to engineering problems, and to enforce requirements firmly, tactfully and impartially.
  • Ability to perform technical computations, analyze complex data, and prepare plans and reports based on findings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors, managers and the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in Geography, Cartography, Engineering, Computer Science or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of GIS and AutoCAD experience.
  • Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and maintains various GIS maps, AutoCAD drawings, plats and charts; prepares illustrative media for various presentations.
  • Performs queries and data analysis of GIS database to create reports on various facilities and infrastructure.
  • Prepares, reviews and approves minor permit applications for underground utility, driveway, and other small projects, in conformance with City and other regulatory agency requirements.
  • Performs design drafting and site visits of resurfacing, sidewalk and driveway construction.
  • Ensures compliance with approved plans and specifications; checks materials used; determines alignment and grades, performs field measurements, prepares and maintains related records and reports.
  • Establishes and updates AutoCAD and GIS drafting standards and details.
  • Prepares technical specifications for the purchase of materials, equipment and services used in diversified projects.
  • Must effectively and positively represent the City in delivering and performing work with colleagues and clients, irrespective of gender, race, religion, age, disability, political affiliation or belief, or sexual orientation.
  • Must establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors and managers.
