About The Position

Engineering Sales Manager to lead Portland-area office. This role combines outside sales engineering responsibilities with team leadership. Provide technical consultation, system design expertise, and engineered HVAC solutions while guiding and supporting a team of sales engineers. Provide engineering guidance and leadership to ensure customers receive HVAC systems that are technically sound, high-performing, and tailored to project requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or foreign degree equivalent
  • Three years of experience in direct selling, marketing, or designing HVAC products for mechanical contractors or design engineers.
  • Three years of experience in business-development and relationship-management within the HVAC industry.
  • Three years of experience presenting HVAC equipment solutions to mechanical contractors and engineers, including generating quotations and presenting proposals.
  • Three years of pre-sale and post-sale technical support experience for HVAC equipment from over 30 manufacturers.
  • Three years of utilizing customer relationship management skills, including anticipating and meeting customer needs effectively.
  • Three years of utilizing organizational and communication skills to manage jobs at various stages of development.
  • Three years of resolving HVAC project problems, including addressing application issues, delivery delays, billing discrepancies, and job-site concerns.
  • Three years of utilizing Microsoft Windows applications for selection, pricing, quoting, submittals, ordering, expediting, billing, and communication with factories and customers.
  • Three years of utilizing technical knowledge of HVAC equipment, controls, and integrated system design.
  • Three years of experience in the commercial HVAC market, including new construction, retrofit, and service work.
  • Three years of leading or mentoring successful sales teams and exceeding revenue targets.
  • Three years of utilizing CRM systems and proposal/estimating tools.
  • Must be willing and able to travel locally within the Portland area as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with mechanical engineers, contractors, and facility owners to design and apply HVAC systems that meet technical specifications, codes, and energy-efficiency goals.
  • Perform equipment selection, sizing, and performance analysis to ensure accurate and efficient system design.
  • Generate quotations and present proposals for HVAC equipment solutions to mechanical contractors and engineers.
  • Prepare and review technical proposals, drawings, and submittits to ensure compliance with engineering standards.
  • Provide pre-sale and post-sale technical support for HVAC equipment from over 30 manufacturers, including selection, pricing, quoting, submittals, ordering, expediting, billing, and communication with factories and customers.
  • Anticipate and meet customer needs effectively through business-development and relationship-management activities within the HVAC industry.
  • Manage jobs at various stages of development and resolve HVAC project problems, including addressing application issues, delivery delays, billing discrepancies, and job-site concerns.
  • Utilize Microsoft Windows applications for all aspects of project management, selection, pricing, quoting, submittals, ordering, expediting, billing, and communication.
  • Lead and mentor the Portland sales team, with a focus on developing their technical expertise and application knowledge.
  • Collaborate with Johnson Barrow's estimating, service, and project-management groups to ensure technical accuracy and customer satisfaction.
  • Represent Johnson Barrow at engineering-focused industry events and technical forums to reinforce our credibility as an engineering-driven partner.
  • 60-70% travel required in the Portland area to visit manufacturers and customers.
