About The Position
Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai’i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative professional and technical (APT) or Instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees such as paid leave and holidays. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees and up to one calendar year for part-time employees.
Requirements
- MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Ability to generate independent research reports, publications and grant proposals.
- The ability to effectively communicate.
- Experience in machining and machine tools.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with finite element software.
- Experience in metallurgical sample preparation.
- Experience with optical and scanning electron microscopy.
- Demonstrated technical communication and writing within a project team.
Responsibilities
- Perform professional and scientific research for extramurally supported tasks.
- Responsible for experimental setup and analysis of samples created by friction stir processing.
- Conduct experimental analysis of machining, forming, and joining processes.
- Create processed samples and metallurgical analysis.
- Produce finite element modeling of manufacturing processes.
- Participate in research meetings as assigned.
- Draft documentation (i.e., test reports, technical documents, final reports) as required.
