About The Position

Amazon is hiring Building Technicians to support its data centers. The Building Operations Technician is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center. This role serves as a technical resource to support Amazon within its data centers, ensuring mission-critical equipment maintains better than 99.999% uptime. The technician will also drive innovation while reducing operational costs and act as the first responder for electrical and mechanical issues affecting Amazon's availability. Equipment includes stand-by diesel generators, fuel systems, switchboards/switch-gears, UPS, PDU, AHU, CRAHUs, CRACs, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems. This position requires the candidate to obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of electrical facilities maintenance and 1+ years of mechanical facilities maintenance experience
  • Experience in Data Center Operations, Building Operations, or an equivalent mission-critical environment.
  • In-depth understanding of electrical and mechanical data center systems, including generators, transformers, electrical distribution gears, uninterruptible power systems (UPS), automatic transfer switches (ATS), pumps, ventilation and air conditioning units (AHU, CRAH, CRAC), as well as building management systems (BMS), electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS), and data trend analysis.
  • Ability to work on-call and provide after-hours support when required.
  • Ability to lift up to 49 lbs and/or work at heights and from ladders.

Nice To Haves

  • 4+ years of data center engineering experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Knowledge of network design and layout as well as low voltage (copper/ fiber) cabling
  • Experience in data center engineering
  • Can perform physical tasks all day without becoming overly tired

Responsibilities
