About The Position

The Engineering Manager at the City of Tucson’s Water Department manages and coordinates capital improvement programs and projects by effectively leading and supervising personnel and directing the operations of an engineering section. Applies Engineering Seal to Tucson Water Plans and As-builts as needed. Ensures projects and programs comply with local, state and federal regulations. Participates in the development and refinement of codes and standards. Work is performed under the supervision of the Water Administrator. This position exercises supervision over division personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Five (5) years of directly related experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License - Arizona Board of Technical Registration (ABTR)
  • Reciprocity from another state is acceptable within six (6) months from date of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) years of demonstrated progressive experience in the design, construction, and management of water or wastewater project/facilities
  • Supervisory experience

Responsibilities

  • Manages the delivery of capital improvement projects and programs either directly, or through delegation to section staff.
  • Recommends and plans projects with Tucson Water leadership.
  • Develops program/project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Reviews plans and specifications.
  • Provides oversite and directly interfaces with consultants, contractors and the public.
  • Provides training, counseling, and mentoring to staff.
  • Conducts employee reviews and approves bi-weekly payroll.
  • Provides effective leadership and supervisory control of section staff.
  • Ensures section staff has the necessary resources and guidance to ensure successful delivery of the capital improvement program.
  • Oversees and plans section budget to ensure funds are being appropriated efficiently.
  • Assists in long range financial planning to ensure capital programs and projects are properly and sustainably funded.
  • Supervises staff in the development of water plans.
  • Reviews plans for conformity to design standards and specifications.
  • Applies engineering seal to plans.
  • Includes certification and stamping of as-builts.
  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
