Engineering Manager

Fervo Energy CompanyHouston, TX

About The Position

Geothermal energy currently represents a small fraction of the global electricity mix. The primary obstacle is not resource scarcity, as heat is abundant globally, but rather the challenge of developing cost-effective and repeatable methods for constructing geothermal power plants. Fervo is addressing this by building the world's first commercial-scale enhanced geothermal system, aiming to transition from first-of-a-kind projects to standardized product deployment. The current focus is on rapid expansion to meet the escalating demand for geothermal energy, positioning it as a crucial component of the global energy landscape. The turboexpander-generator is central to every megawatt Fervo generates. This role seeks an Engineering Manager to oversee this critical component. The objective is not merely to engineer an optimal turbine package in isolation, but to manage the entire conversion scope across a fleet of plants, reduce costs with each iteration, and cultivate a team capable of collaborating with leading OEMs while addressing their limitations. This position offers the opportunity to influence the engineering decisions impacting every Fervo geothermal plant for the next decade. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, and delivery of turboexpander-generator systems for Fervo's ORC facilities. This encompasses the turboexpander, generator, breakers, protection systems, auxiliaries, and all associated foundations, piping, and valves within the turbine package boundary. Key responsibilities include managing schedule, budget, and OEM performance, and leading a diverse, cross-functional engineering team. The role reports to the Director of Engineering.
