About The Position

Numeric is building the modern financial data platform for accounting and finance, addressing the limitations of outdated software in the accounting space. We are leveraging AI and modern technology to solve complex data problems for accounting teams, enabling them to achieve verifiable financial data faster and make more confident business decisions. We have achieved strong product-market fit with a growing customer base including prominent companies like Anthropic, Notion, and OpenAI. We are backed by top-tier investors and industry leaders. We are hiring our first dedicated Engineering Manager to lead our engineering teams in San Francisco. This role requires a leader who can manage and grow a team while remaining technically involved, understanding system design, and earning the trust of their team through collaboration and a deep understanding of the work. The ideal candidate gets energy from developing other engineers and making them better.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience building software, including meaningful time as a hands-on engineer
  • 2+ years directly managing engineers, with real ownership of hiring, performance, and team output
  • High motivation and agency
  • Genuinely enjoy managing engineers
  • Take pride in developing people, building trust on teams, and making hard calls on people and priorities
  • Willingness to go deep on system design, review code and architecture decisions, and earn credibility with the team by being a good collaborator

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team building the ingestion, transformation, and lineage infrastructure for the data platform.
  • Own delivery of the reporting engine experience for defining, composing, and drilling into structured financial reports.
  • Guide the team developing the core engine for structuring financial data and automating manual work.
  • Lead a team building complex accounting workflows with dependency management, automation, and AI-native experiences.
  • Manage and grow a team of engineers.
  • Stay close enough to the code and system design to earn the trust of the team.
  • Develop people, build trust on teams, and make hard calls on people and priorities.
  • Review code and architecture decisions.
  • Help build the management function, including process and rituals.
  • Protect and amplify the culture that maximizes great work.
