About The Position

CURIS is seeking a highly organized, technically capable Engineering Manager to lead our multidisciplinary engineering team. This role is responsible for ensuring engineering projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards while fostering accountability, communication, and continuous improvement across the organization. The ideal candidate combines strong technical knowledge with exceptional leadership and operational management skills. They will establish project management processes, maintain engineering schedules, coordinate cross-functional teams, manage vendor relationships, and create a culture of ownership and execution. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who enjoys building systems, improving processes, and helping talented engineers perform at their highest level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of engineering leadership or engineering management experience.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, controls, and software development environments.
  • Proven experience leading complex technical projects.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Experience using project management tools and Gantt scheduling software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience developing engineering processes and operational systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a small or rapidly growing technology company.
  • Familiarity with ERP or accounting systems.
  • Experience with hardware product development.
  • Experience managing contract manufacturers and engineering vendors.
  • Knowledge of product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
  • PMP certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team, including mechanical, electrical, controls, and software engineers.
  • Establish clear expectations, priorities, and measurable performance goals.
  • Hold team members accountable for deadlines, deliverables, and project commitments.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, project reviews, and performance evaluations.
  • Remove roadblocks that prevent engineers from executing effectively.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture centered around ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive engineering schedules for both internal initiatives and client-facing projects.
  • Build and manage project timelines using Gantt charts and project management software.
  • Coordinate engineering resources across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks early, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure engineering milestones are consistently achieved.
  • Drive projects from concept through production and deployment.
  • Maintain visibility into project status for executive leadership.
  • Design, document, and continuously improve engineering processes and workflows.
  • Standardize project management methodologies across engineering disciplines.
  • Develop systems that improve engineering efficiency, accountability, and communication.
  • Implement KPI dashboards and project reporting metrics.
  • Create repeatable processes that support scalable growth.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout engineering operations.
  • Possess sufficient technical depth to understand and evaluate: Electro-mechanical systems, Embedded systems, Software architecture, Controls engineering, Product development, Manufacturing considerations.
  • Participate in engineering design reviews.
  • Assist in technical decision-making when needed.
  • Help prioritize engineering work based on technical and commercial impact.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Engineering and: Executive leadership, Operations, Manufacturing, Sales, Product Management, Customer Success.
  • Translate technical concepts into business language for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ensure alignment between engineering priorities and company objectives.
  • Communicate project status clearly and proactively.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with engineering vendors, manufacturers, suppliers, and development partners.
  • Coordinate outsourced engineering work when required.
  • Evaluate vendor performance and ensure quality standards are maintained.
  • Support sourcing and procurement decisions with engineering input.
  • Understand engineering decisions through both technical and commercial perspectives.
  • Assist with project costing and resource planning.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting efforts.
  • Work with accounting and operations to monitor project costs and engineering expenditures.
  • Help ensure engineering efforts maximize customer value while supporting company profitability.
  • Establish a reliable engineering project management system.
  • Implement standardized project schedules and Gantt tracking for all engineering initiatives.
  • Improve on-time project delivery and engineering throughput.
  • Increase accountability across the engineering organization.
  • Strengthen communication between engineering, operations, and executive leadership.
  • Develop repeatable engineering processes that enable the company to scale.
  • Build a culture where commitments are met, priorities are clear, and execution is consistent.
