About The Position

The Engineering Manager – Hire is a hands-on technical and people leader accountable for the delivery, quality, reliability, and continued evolution of the Viventium Hire platform. The role leads a product area spanning high-volume applicant tracking, candidate engagement, credentialing, job-board distribution, external integrations, and AI-powered hiring capabilities built with Python, React, GraphQL, relational databases, and Amazon Web Services. The manager combines engineering judgment, active technical contribution, people leadership, and cross-functional partnership. The role guides architecture and AI strategy, develops engineers, strengthens delivery practices, and addresses recruiting, credentialing, integration, privacy, and compliance challenges. It leads the team in delivering secure, reliable, scalable, high-quality product experiences; owns technical direction and execution across frontend, backend, APIs, integrations, data, AI, and cloud services; and promotes team accountability, collaboration, learning, responsible innovation, and sustainable system ownership. The position works closely with Product, Design, Quality Assurance, Architecture, Security, and other stakeholders to translate priorities into achievable work. It advances AI-powered hiring capabilities, uses delivery and product measures to improve predictability and performance, and protects production health and sensitive candidate and credential data. Periodic travel may be required. Production support, incident response, or scheduled release activities outside standard business hours may be required when business needs dictate.

  • Ability to make and communicate sound technical tradeoffs, resolve disagreement constructively, and align technical and business stakeholders.
  • Leadership grounded in empathy, transparency, accountability, inclusion, and active coaching.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt as the organization grows and integrates.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and/or work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through phone, video, and written channels.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, technical decisions, projects, and deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with recruiting technology, applicant-tracking systems, human resources technology, payroll, or human capital management software.
  • Experience supporting healthcare or other regulated-industry use cases involving licensing, credentialing, privacy, or compliance.
  • Experience with retrieval-augmented generation, model tool use, agent-based workflows, AI evaluation methods, and related privacy and safety guardrails.
  • Experience designing, building, or supporting integrations with job boards, external vendors, and other third-party systems.
  • Experience with GraphQL architecture, relational data models, scalable API services, and distributed systems.
  • Experience leading engineering teams through organizational growth, platform integration, modernization, or significant product change.
  • Familiarity with responsible AI, secure software development, privacy-by-design, and handling sensitive candidate or employee information.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end Hire engineering delivery from discovery, planning, and technical design through development, testing, release, and production support.
  • Set priorities, remove blockers, manage dependencies, and communicate delivery commitments, risks, and tradeoffs.
  • Balance roadmap delivery with platform stability, maintainability, security, defect resolution, technical debt reduction, and long-term system health.
  • Use measures such as throughput, cycle time, escaped defects, change failure rate, and planned-versus-completed work to identify constraints and guide improvement.
  • Maintain a disciplined delivery cadence and partner with Product, Design, and Quality Assurance on backlog prioritization and delivery expectations.
  • Guide the Hire platform’s technical architecture and roadmap with engineering and architecture leadership.
  • Make and communicate technical decisions across Python services, React applications, GraphQL APIs, relational databases, integrations, AI capabilities, and AWS infrastructure.
  • Review designs, code, and implementation approaches for correctness, security, reliability, performance, maintainability, and alignment with engineering standards.
  • Contribute actively to development and complex technical work while enabling engineers to retain ownership.
  • Guide production services on AWS, including Infrastructure as Code, observability, automated testing, safe releases, incident response, and root-cause analysis.
  • Promote manageable code changes, effective peer review, CI/CD, and appropriate automated testing; identify and manage technical risks, dependencies, architectural constraints, and technical debt.
  • Guide AI-powered Hire capabilities and partner with Product to define use cases, success criteria, evaluation methods, and customer and business value measures.
  • Provide technical direction for LLM integrations, retrieval-augmented generation, tool-enabled capabilities, and agent-based workflows where appropriate.
  • Evaluate AI tradeoffs involving quality, accuracy, cost, latency, scalability, privacy, security, safety, explainability, and maintenance; establish testing, monitoring, human review, and operational guardrails.
  • Drive AI-first software development practices while maintaining human judgment, security controls, and quality standards; assess relevant AI technologies and practices.
  • Lead, mentor, and support engineers through one-on-ones, feedback, coaching, performance discussions, and clear expectations.
  • Create development opportunities through stretch assignments, technical ownership, pairing, knowledge sharing, and exposure to new technologies and domains.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, accountable team; recognize contributions and reinforce ownership, craftsmanship, responsible innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Support workforce planning, interviewing, selection, onboarding, and retention; address performance, workload, and team-health concerns in accordance with Company practices.
  • Develop knowledge of healthcare hiring workflows, including job distribution, applicant tracking, screening, interviews, messaging, credential verification, documentation, onboarding, and payroll handoffs.
  • Own engineering outcomes across development, test, release, and production environments for assigned product areas; maintain production stability and reliable Hire workflows.
  • Translate client, candidate, market, operational, integration, and compliance needs into feasible technical approaches and sequenced plans.
  • Protect the confidentiality, integrity, availability, and appropriate use of candidate, applicant, credential, and employment information.
  • Coordinate production incident response, investigation, remediation, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action follow-through; identify and communicate product, technical, operational, privacy, and compliance risks.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, Quality Assurance, Architecture, Security, Support, Implementation, Client Success, Onboarding, Payroll, and other partners.
