Headway is building a new mental healthcare system that makes care accessible to everyone by addressing the barrier of insurance. We have automated the administrative work involved in credentialing, claims, and payment reconciliation. Over 75,000 providers in all 50 states use our software, serving over 1 million patients. We are developing the best tools for therapists to manage their practices, reimagining the process of finding a therapist, and investing in platform foundations for scalability. We are more than just a billing solution; we are becoming the platform where care is delivered. As a Series D company with over $325M in funding, we are seeking exceptional individuals to help us achieve our mission and make this the most meaningful experience of their careers. Join us to improve mental healthcare. About Engineering at Headway: Software is essential to building a new mental healthcare system at Headway. We build software to empower patients and therapists to overcome challenges. * **Ship small, learn fast:** We are creating novel products and believe in rapid iteration through quick shipping to understand user needs. * **Everything is a product:** We treat all our creations, from patient search to developer productivity tools, as products with end-users in mind. * **Optimize for trust:** We encourage continuous learning and foster a safe environment where engineers can ask questions and discuss mistakes. Tools we use: * Languages: Python 3, TypeScript * Libraries & Frameworks: FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, React, Remix, Next.js * Datastores: Postgres, Redis * Infrastructure: AWS (Fargate, ECS, S3, and more), Spark and Kafka * Monitoring: Datadog, PagerDuty, Sentry * Version Control: Github * Vulnerability Management: Snyk, Semgrep * Cloud Security: Lacework * AI Tools: Cursor, Claude, Gemini, Eddy (our in-house cloud agent harness) About these roles: Headway is establishing a national network of therapists who accept insurance, making mental healthcare significantly more accessible. Our providers are central to Headway's mission, and an intuitive platform is crucial for their success and patient care quality. This role is key to our providers' daily lives, focusing on saving them time, simplifying documentation, and ensuring compliance. As an engineering leader at Headway, you will lead and develop engineering pods focused on provider experiences through people management, strategic planning, and technical guidance. You will define team objectives, operational strategies, support structures, and drive best-in-class user experiences that significantly impact our growth and ability to meet startup demands. We are hiring two Engineering Managers for the Provider group: * **Care Delivery EM:** This team is building the real-time clinical intelligence layer for every provider session, including a live client sidebar for telehealth, in-home, and calendar visits, and a clinical copilot for querying notes and transcripts via chat. This is a 0→1 team defining AI-assisted care delivery at scale, offering high ownership, greenfield product development, and a direct impact on patient outcomes with over 60,000 providers. * **Group Practices EM:** This team supports a significant portion of our provider network with specific needs for practice management.
