About The Position

Aiwyn is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the team responsible for its core payments business. This team owns the AR automation engine that integrates with practice management systems, handles invoice processing, collects payments via ACH, card, and digital wallet, and posts results back to the ledger. Payments is Aiwyn's primary entry point and a critical dependency for all other platform products. The role involves leading a growing team of engineers, collaborating with product managers and business operators, and ensuring the platform's reliability, speed, and accuracy in handling billions of dollars annually. The focus is on building trust through robust systems, clean audit trails, and clear error handling, while driving automation adoption and maintaining high uptime and low latency as volume scales.

Requirements

  • Engineering management experience of 2+ years, leading teams of 5+ engineers.
  • Proven ability to coach engineers, set team standards, and develop individuals.
  • Manager-first approach, prioritizing team enablement over individual technical contribution.
  • Hands-on technical background in complex systems, with experience in architecture discussions and earning engineer trust.
  • Experience in payments or fintech, including familiarity with ACH, card networks, settlement, chargebacks, NACHA, and PCI.
  • Demonstrated operational excellence, with experience defining and improving key metrics like uptime, latency, and error budgets.
  • Experience holding individuals accountable and managing performance, including difficult conversations and departures.
  • Proficiency with AI tooling in a work context, understanding its benefits and limitations.
  • Experience leading teams focused on integrations with external systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow the engineering team, including coaching, setting performance standards, hiring, and performance management.
  • Own the payments roadmap in partnership with the Product Manager, defining priorities, scope, and translating strategy into actionable engineering tasks.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the payment infrastructure, including payment rails, integrations, authorization and audit layers, reconciliation pipelines, and operational tooling.
  • Collaborate closely with finance, support, compliance, customer success, and accounting firms to understand operational needs and translate them into system requirements.
  • Ensure operational excellence through effective cycle planning, change management, on-call rotations, and incident response, maintaining high availability for the payments system.
