Engineering Manager, Outcomes

Hinge HealthSan Francisco, CA

About The Position

Pain reduction isn't a vanity metric at Hinge Health — it's the mission. The Outcomes pod owns the member-facing surfaces that make clinical progress visible (pain logging, health assessments, outcomes visualization) and the Assessment Service, the company-wide platform that powers every structured survey and PROM across Migraine, Perisurgical, Women's Pelvic Health, and beyond. As the Engineering Manager for this team, you'll lead 8 engineers at the intersection of consumer product craft, clinical measurement rigor, and platform engineering — turning clinical signal into product bets and operating the infrastructure the entire organization depends on.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 3+ years of experience managing a team of 5+ engineers in a product or platform engineering environment
  • Full-stack or backend-heavy engineering background, with the ability to reason about service architecture, data modeling, and client-side UX tradeoffs
  • Experience owning a shared platform or service consumed by multiple internal teams — with the judgment to balance internal roadmap with external partner needs
  • Track record of running experiments and reasoning about outcomes metrics — not just shipping features

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical or Health Data Experience: Familiarity with PROMs, clinical outcomes measurement, or regulated health data (HIPAA); ability to partner credibly with clinical stakeholders on what to measure and how
  • Assessment or Survey Systems: Experience building or operating structured data collection systems — survey flows, configurable templates, response validation, and downstream data pipelines
  • Server-Driven UI / Configurable Layouts: Familiarity with SDUI patterns for forms and assessment experiences; bonus if in a mobile context
  • React Native / Mobile: Working knowledge of React Native or equivalent mobile development experience
  • AI-Native Development Practices: Active use of Cursor, Claude Code, or equivalent tools as part of the engineering workflow; experience building or maintaining CI-enforced harness engineering patterns

Responsibilities

  • Build trusted partnerships with your PM, Data Scientist, and cross-neighborhood engineering leads. Understand the full stack — from the React Native client (phoenix) through phoenix-bff to assessment-service — and complete your first code reviews and PR merges.
  • Audit the current Assessment Service roadmap, catalog inbound requests from partner pods (Migraine, Perisurgical, Enrollment), and establish a transparent prioritization framework that balances internal roadmap with external partner needs.
  • Immerse yourself in the team's experimentation culture: review active A/B tests on pain logging cadence and member engagement, and set expectations for rigorous go/no-go criteria going forward.
  • Ship at least one experiment that demonstrably moves a core clinical metric — pain reduction, survey engagement, or PSFS improvement — and build the analytical discipline so results are trusted org-wide.
  • Define and publish contribution patterns for the Assessment Service so partner pods can extend the platform without creating bottlenecks, reducing ad-hoc cross-team coordination overhead.
  • Deepen the pod's AI-native development practices — expanding use of autonomous agents, CI-enforced harness engineering patterns, and developer tooling that increases engineering throughput.
  • Own the outcomes product surface end-to-end: pain logging UX, progress tracking, outcomes visualization, and health assessment experiences that members love and clinicians trust.
  • Ensure Outcomes data is a durable company asset — well-modeled, well-documented, and wired into the clinical and commercial reporting stack — not just a sprint metric.
  • Grow and develop a high-performing team, raising the engineering bar through hiring, mentorship, and career-ladder progression while sustaining a culture that values both clinical impact and platform reliability.

Benefits

  • Inclusive healthcare and benefits: On top of comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, we offer employees and their family members help with gender-affirming care, tools for family and fertility planning, and travel reimbursements if healthcare isn't available where you live.
  • Planning for the future: Start saving for the future with our traditional or Roth 401k retirement plan options which include a 2% company match.
  • Modern life stipends: Manage your own learning and development.
