About The Position

Fluor Mining & Metals is a leader in the study, engineering, and execution of mining projects world-wide. We have designed and constructed marquee mining facilities in all major mining regions, supporting copper, gold, and other base and precious metals operations. Our work includes greenfield and brownfield developments and spans all phases of project delivery, from studies through EPC and EPCM execution. You will be responsible for the delivery of engineering to Fluor’s high safety and quality standards, meeting or improving cost, schedule, and project-defined milestones. This role will be focused on leading the engineering development of Mine Services Area (MSA) as well as site facilities and infrastructure scope supporting mining operations. This role leads the engineering effort on assigned projects and is responsible for coordinating Engineering Discipline Leads and interfacing with various project stakeholders to develop the functional requirements and design basis for these facilities to achieve the most cost-effective total project solution.

Requirements

  • Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in an engineering field of study and sixteen (16) years of work-related experience
  • Recognized professional certification or registration in the applicable field preferred
  • Managing and leading engineering scope on large mining or industrial projects, including responsibility for site facilities or infrastructure areas
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders
  • Knowledge of mining facilities and site infrastructure including experience on the development and/or construction of these facilities (e.g., mining truckshops)
  • Practical field experience
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Project set-up, schedule development, progress reporting, and project close-out experience
  • Knowledge of engineering through all project phases from conceptual development through construction and commissioning
  • Intermediate computer and software skills including word processing, email, spreadsheet, and presentation tools
  • Registration or eligible for registration with the Engineers and Geoscientists BC as a professional registrant.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage the interface between Engineering and other project disciplines including Engineering, Project Controls, Project Management, Procurement and Contracts, Construction, and the Client team
  • Lead and integrate multi-discipline engineering for Mine Services Area facilities, including administration buildings, mine control centres, maintenance facilities, Truckshops, fueling and washdown areas, warehouses, laydown yards, utilities distribution, internal roads, and personnel support facilities
  • Guide the development of functional requirements for the above facilities to establish a clear design basis for engineering, leveraging past experience on such facilities to engage with project stakeholders
  • Function as a leader in applying Cost Competitive Execution techniques and developing optimized, constructible, and operable MSA layouts
  • Ensure that engineering work is completed on schedule, meets Fluor’s quality standards including review meetings and checking procedures, performs within baseline hour and material budgets, required deliverables are produced, and change management is executed in a timely manner
  • Work with Discipline Leads and Engineering Department Managers to ensure that staffing levels are appropriate to meet engineering schedule commitments and that personnel with the appropriate technical capability and site experience are assigned
  • Support constructability, operability, and safety-in-design through participation in design reviews and coordination with Construction and Operations teams
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Salary is based upon experience.
  • Salary Range: $138,000.00 - $256,000.00
  • The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
