About The Position

Luxury Presence is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the Maps & Search team. This team is responsible for the home search experience across web and mobile, a high-traffic surface that includes a search service handling a billion requests monthly. The ideal candidate is a manager who leads from the front, stays technically involved with AI and the SDLC, and aims to maximize the impact of a small, senior, AI-augmented team. This role involves setting technical direction, staying close to the code, and ensuring consistent team output.

Requirements

8+ years of professional software engineering experience with significant senior or staff-level experience.
2+ years of experience managing engineering teams.
Search experience, including work on search, relevance, ranking, or retrieval systems.
Deep expertise in TypeScript, Node.js, and React, with full-stack fluency.
Experience designing and operating scalable microservice architectures in cloud-native environments (AWS preferred).
Strong understanding of GraphQL, event-driven systems (Kafka), and databases (PostgreSQL, OpenSearch).
Proven track record operating high-traffic, low-latency production systems at scale, with proficiency in SLOs, incident response, and capacity planning.
Experience leading high-impact initiatives from concept through production in a SaaS environment.
Ability to lead from the front, remaining technically respected and treating management as a craft.
Experience using AI as a core part of the daily workflow.
Strong opinions, loosely held, on how AI impacts software architecture, team structure, and engineering culture.
Systems thinking ability, connecting technical decisions to customer outcomes and business value.
Clear and direct communication skills, capable of explaining complex trade-offs to various stakeholders.
Comfort with ambiguity and speed in a fast-growing company environment.

Responsibilities

Lead and grow the Maps & Search team, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, 1:1s, direct feedback, and career development.
Manage with a focus on craft, building a healthy, high-performing team that ships impactful changes.
Remain hands-on by contributing directly to code and design reviews, architecture, and debugging, maintaining technical proficiency to make informed trade-off decisions.
Own and scale a high-throughput search platform, driving architecture, relevance, latency, and reliability for a system handling approximately 1 billion monthly requests and hundreds of millions of listings.
Deliver a world-class home search experience by owning the core home discovery experience across web and mobile, focusing on improving engagement, lead conversion, and agent workflows while maintaining speed and responsiveness at scale.
Advance AI-powered discovery by partnering with other teams to integrate LLMs and intelligent ranking into search and user workflows, enhancing how buyers and agents discover, filter, and interact with listings.
Shape the product roadmap in collaboration with product and design teams, defining what to build and why, translating user needs and business goals into a clear technical plan, and owning end-to-end delivery including planning, quality, reliability, and incident response.
