About The Position

Omada Health is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead two squads focused on building Omada’s Platform and Engineering Systems. These squads are responsible for the entire lifecycle of their products, from prototype to production, including maintenance and on-call rotations. The Engineering Manager will guide the squads' work, prioritize initiatives, and foster the growth of their team members. This role involves hands-on coding alongside AI-powered engineers, managing execution, and running squad rituals like iteration shaping, prioritization, and estimation. The manager will partner with various departments including Engineering, Product, Design, IT, InfoSec, Legal, Compliance, and Procurement, and will oversee significant annual vendor budgets for services like AWS, Datadog, GitLab, and Anthropic. Additionally, the role requires responsibility for annual audit controls and developing automation for streamlined audit responses.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in software engineering, with at least 2 years managing engineers or equivalent team leadership experience.
  • A track record of shipping and maintaining mission-critical software in production.
  • Ability to build a roadmap, plan for capacity, evaluate trade-offs, and negotiate with stakeholders.
  • Experience owning prioritization and estimation for a team, including the ability to say no and explain why.
  • Experience giving direct developmental feedback and managing underperformance with support.
  • Currently shipping or recently shipping production code in at least one of the following areas: Multi-account AWS, self-managed CI, k8s, backend (Ruby, Python), GitOps release management, internal tools and services.
  • Hands-on experience directing AI agents for production changes, with a considered view on their effectiveness and limitations.
  • Understanding of CI/CD, logging, monitoring, and telemetry at a level sufficient to assess operational health.
  • A security-first mentality in design and development.
  • Excellent written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Managing, Hiring, and Mentoring a team of 5 engineers, with opportunities for expansion.
  • Owning the squad's delivery, including sprint shaping, prioritization, backlog grooming, and estimation.
  • Ensuring cycle time at constant or better quality, and explaining the squad's contribution to it.
  • Shipping production code every sprint, off the critical path, using the same agent workflows as the squad.
  • Growing engineers by providing excellent leadership and challenging opportunities.
  • Owning the operational health of the squad, including on-call rotations, MTTR, and post-incident analysis.
  • Escalating issues early, often, and precisely, providing tradeoffs and recommendations.
  • Hiring and developing AI-augmented engineers, fostering a culture of co-intelligence.
