About the Role As an Engineering Manager, Expansion, you will lead a team responsible for building the platform capabilities and critical customer experiences that enable customers to scale successfully on Render. This team will own and build foundational systems such as APIs and integrations, identity and access management, compliance, and key product experiences like CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows. These capabilities help customers adopt Render in more advanced environments and operate reliably as their usage grows. You will operate at the intersection of engineering, product, and infrastructure—shaping systems and experiences that make Render extensible, secure, scalable, and intuitive to use. This includes building robust platform primitives, improving critical workflows, and enabling customers to grow with confidence on the platform.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of leading teams building customer-facing product experiences in complex technical domains
  • Strong technical background with the ability to guide the design of scalable, reliable product systems and workflows
  • Experience building products on top of underlying platform capabilities such as CI/CD, IAM, compliance, APIs, or deployment systems
  • Experience managing and developing engineers, including hiring and performance management
  • Ability to operate in ambiguous, cross-functional environments and bring clarity to complex problem spaces
  • Experience partnering closely with Product, Design, and other engineering teams
  • Strong product instincts and the ability to translate technical capabilities into intuitive customer experiences
  • Clear ability to connect engineering investments to customer adoption, usability, and business impact

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on developer-facing product experiences or technical workflows
  • Familiarity with CI/CD systems, deployment workflows, IAM, or enterprise product capabilities
  • Experience building products that depend on APIs, integrations, or platform subsystems
  • Background in developer platforms, DevTools, or complex B2B SaaS products

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a team of engineers responsible for platform capabilities and critical customer experiences that support customer expansion and scale
  • Own a significant portion of the platform and user experience, contributing to areas such as: APIs and integrations ecosystem Identity and access management (IAM), roles, and permissions Compliance and enterprise readiness features CI/CD pipelines, deployment workflows, and operational tooling
  • Define and evolve the systems and workflows that enable customers to: Integrate Render into their development and operational workflows Manage teams, permissions, and environments securely Deploy and operate services reliably at scale
  • Build and scale foundational systems with a focus on reliability, extensibility, security, and usability
  • Partner closely with Product and Design to align roadmap with customer and platform needs
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to ensure seamless integration across the platform
  • Make and guide key architectural decisions for long-term platform evolution
  • Balance long-term platform investments with iterative improvements to customer-facing workflows
  • Foster a culture of ownership, quality, and operational excellence
  • Hire and develop engineers as the team grows
