About the position
As an Engineering Manager, Cloud Operations, Ship at Sourcegraph, you will be responsible for overseeing the operations of their Cloud Managed Services. This role offers the opportunity to solve complex technical problems, unleash the potential of engineering teams, and deliver high-quality software to customers. Within the first month, you will build relationships, understand project goals, and work on the transition of the Cloud Operations team. Within three months, you will focus on improving processes, managing support rotations, and enhancing customer engagement. Within six months, you will address infrastructure pain points and develop long-term improvement plans. Within one year, you will hire exceptional talent, collaborate on ambitious goals, and establish a clear technical and execution strategy.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the operations of Sourcegraph's Cloud Managed Services
- Manage the infrastructure for customers to manage their source code and the AI Code Assistant (Cody)
- Solve complex technical problems for customers
- Build a trusting relationship with direct reports and peers
- Understand and contribute to the projects and goals of the teams
- Work with senior ICs to set technical strategy
- Transition the Cloud Operations team
- Help teams build scalable solutions for complex releases
- Improve processes and manage on-call and support rotations
- Improve observability and reduce critical customer issues
- Champion customer engagement in design and development
- Improve current infrastructure pain points
- Develop a long-term plan for continuous improvement
- Hire and retain exceptional people
- Collaborate with product and engineering leadership on ambitious goals
- Develop a clear technical and execution strategy for goals
- Guide teams to improve existing infrastructure and prepare for expansion
- Have technical conversations with customers and represent the team
- Utilize industry experience across departments
- Have at least 4 years of management experience and 5 years of coding experience
- Lead engineering teams and maintain a high technical bar
- Have experience with SaaS operations, Google Cloud Platform, and container solutions (Kubernetes, GKE, Kustomize, Helm)
