Engineering Manager, Caching Systems

The job overview for this position is that Reddit is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Caching Systems team within the Storage Infrastructure team. The Caching Systems team is responsible for the data caching layers, including the Memcache fleet and the Redis fleet, which are used by core applications supporting the Reddit site, as well as Machine Learning and Ads workflows. The team is currently focused on revamping one of the caching systems to achieve cost savings. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for selecting and driving high leverage projects, building and mentoring the team, collaborating with other teams, and continuously improving technical and non-technical abilities.

• Steer the team to select, scope, and drive high leverage projects that align with Reddit's goals
• Build out the team to execute on a strategy and create more efficient, reliable Storage systems and Caching infrastructures
• Mentor the ICs and be a leader for the team
• Collaborate with a variety of teams across Reddit Engineering
• Learn and improve own technical and non-technical abilities
• Build cost-effective, highly scalable, and mission-critical Redis clusters with minimal manual intervention
• Support application's needs for a strongly consistent caching layer with high availability
• Frequently serve on the critical path of various major product launches
• Manage a high-performing engineering team
• Have 7+ years of experience in backend infrastructure or Storage systems
• Have a strong focus on scalability, performance, and quality
• Possess high empathy and excellent communication skills
• Have experience with Redis and/or Memcache (a plus)

• 3+ years experience in people management of high performing engineering teams
• 7+ years experience on backend infrastructure, or Storage systems
