About The Position

StubHub is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead its AI Engineering team, the company’s AI Center of Excellence. The team builds and operates shared AI infrastructure, platforms, frameworks, and engineering foundations, as well as end-to-end AI-powered solutions. Its mission is to help make StubHub an AI-first company by enabling employees and teams to use AI safely and effectively at scale. This technical and organizational leadership role will shape and execute StubHub’s AI engineering strategy and roadmap. The manager will lead a high-performing team, create clarity in an evolving and ambiguous technical area, balance foundational platform investment with high-value solutions, and help turn emerging AI capabilities into reliable production systems. The role partners with senior leadership, Staff engineers, technical leads, and teams across the company to identify opportunities, establish priorities, and deliver practical business outcomes. The position is based in Aliso Viejo, California. The anticipated annual base salary range is $300,000–$400,000. Requirements

At least 7 years of software engineering experience, including meaningful technical ownership of complex production systems.
At least 3 years of direct people leadership experience, with meaningful responsibility for hiring, coaching, performance reviews, promotions, performance improvement, and difficult talent decisions.
Experience leading technically strong engineering teams across career levels and partnering effectively with Senior and Staff-level engineers.
Strong technical judgment and recent participation in system design, architecture, and engineering-quality decisions; regular coding is not required.
Experience building or operating AI-powered products, developer platforms, engineering productivity systems, or other technically complex platform capabilities in production.
Practical understanding of modern AI systems, including LLM-powered applications, agents, orchestration, evaluation, observability, reliability, and safeguards.
Ability to distinguish prototypes from production-ready systems and establish practices to operate AI capabilities reliably at scale.
Ability to work from first principles, create direction without a complete playbook, prioritize effectively, and deliver in a fast-moving technical environment.
Experience balancing foundational platform investment with immediate product or business needs and making thoughtful build, partnership, and enablement decisions.
Track record of building high-performing teams, giving candid feedback, developing engineers and technical leaders, and maintaining a high performance bar.

Responsibilities

Lead, coach, and develop AI engineers across career stages; establish expectations, manage performance, develop senior technical leaders, and support a high-accountability environment.
Translate evolving AI capabilities and company needs into achievable engineering plans; clarify ownership, manage dependencies, make tradeoffs, and drive predictable delivery.
Guide the development and operation of shared AI infrastructure, platforms, and frameworks for building, evaluating, deploying, and operating AI solutions safely and efficiently.
Lead end-to-end engineering efforts applying AI to high-value company problems, from opportunity identification through production improvement.
Decide when AI Engineering should own solutions, partner with other teams, or provide reusable capabilities and guidance that enable teams to work independently.
Establish engineering practices for AI evaluation, reliability, safety, observability, and production readiness.
Partner on architecture, system design, engineering tradeoffs, and technical quality while supporting technical ownership by senior engineers and leads.
Measure adoption, satisfaction, productivity, experimentation, delivery, and user impact to assess value and guide investment.
Work with engineering leadership, technical leaders, and teams across StubHub to understand problems, prioritize opportunities, and translate AI capabilities into business outcomes.
