About The Position

The Engineering Lab Manager will work with faculty to oversee the lab prep and support research. The School of Science and Engineering Instrument Shop oversees the maintenance and upkeep of all instruments and equipment in the School. This position will ordinarily be assigned to the engineering departments to service their equipment, prep labs, aid student groups, and oversee the machine shop. This person will act as part of the Instrument Shop team and as such may called upon to work on equipment in the rest of the School. This is a new position to support the expanded engineering lab suite in Fisher and Libermann Halls. These labs require supervision of the machine shop, and course lab prep.

Requirements

  • Study of engineering or engineering technology and work-related experience.
  • The person should be knowledgeable in the areas of lab oversight and safety, machine and instrument operations. Generally, they should be willing to learn new instruments and machines, teach students how to use the machines and supervise them with patience. They must be team oriented—working with faculty, staff and students at various times of the day on the same task.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • 1-3 years of work- related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Machine and instrument care: Understand the use and maintain instruments and machines in the engineering departments.
  • Supervises the machine shop: The machine shop must be supervised if students are using it outside of class time or as support during class.
  • Prepares labs for engineering courses in conjunction with the instructors.
  • Works with the Instrument staff to support the school as a whole.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
