About The Position

The Mars Food Engineering Internship Experience provides exposure to various areas within food engineering. Interns will work with cross-functional teams, gain understanding of improvement tools like SIXSIGMA, Kaizen, and 5S, and develop proficiency in Microsoft applications, specifically Excel and Power BI. The role involves assisting in data collection and analysis, planning work/material flow for efficiency, initiating improvement and waste reduction projects, conducting projects to increase plant efficiency, optimizing performance, and setting line performance standards (KPIs). Interns will also develop proposed equipment layouts, operational designs, and material flows, and collect, analyze, and report Key Performance Indicators, creating action plans for improvement. Additionally, they will conduct time and motion studies to identify opportunities for improved worker efficiency.

Requirements

  • 3rd year student in Industrial/Mechanical Engineering Program
  • Eligible candidates will intern the summer prior to their final graduation date.
  • Open to students legally authorized to work in the U.S., without the need for current or future work status authorization or visa sponsorship for employment.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of drug & background screening.
  • Eligible candidates will be responsible for personal transportation to and from work site during duration of the internship program.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize performance and drive value leadership.
  • Perform a key role in the team process of setting line performance standards, e.g., KPI’s.
  • Develop proposed equipment layouts, operational designs, and material flows, which impact direct cost elements, with a vision toward achieving plant long-term objectives.
  • Collect, analyze, and report Key Performance Indicators at value stream, facility, and enterprise level, creating and leading KPI-based action plans for performance improvement.
  • Conduct time and motion studies to identify opportunities to improve worker efficiency.
  • Plan the flow of work or materials to maximize efficiency.
