About The Position

The European Broadcasting Union’s (EBU’s) US subsidiary, Eurovision News Americas, is looking for an engineering intern to work part-time from our Washington, DC office. This is a paid position. ABOUT EUROVISION NEWS AMERICAS Eurovision News Americas (ENA) is the US subsidiary of the EBU's News operations, primarily serving the Eurovision News Exchange (EVN). In operation since 1961, the EVN is the biggest exchange of its kind. It is built upon a network of nearly 70 EBU Member and sublicensee newsrooms in over 50 countries and is founded on principles of editorial integrity, solidarity, and sharing of knowledge and best practices. In addition to serving the EVN, Eurovision News Americas provides news-related broadcast services and office space to EBU Members and affiliates and is an advocate for public service journalism in the Americas.

Requirements

  • Academic or professional background in video systems, media technology, or broadcast engineering.
  • Hands-on experience or academic background in broadcast engineering, media technology, video production, or a related technical field.
  • Familiarity with broadcast systems and workflows, including video signal flow, production infrastructure, and news editing tools; a strong willingness to learn is equally valued.
  • Basic understanding of IP networking concepts.
  • Practical experience with cabling, equipment setup, or technical maintenance, whether in a professional, academic, or personal project context.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, live production environment and able to prioritize tasks under pressure.
  • Curious and proactive about learning new technologies, tools, and workflows; willing to spend time in a test lab environment evaluating gear and documenting findings.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively as part of a diverse, international team.
  • An understanding of, or genuine interest in, the broadcast and media industry and how technical operations support editorial output.
  • Reliable and professional in approach, with a commitment to punctuality, clear communication, and personal accountability.
  • An appreciation for working in a multicultural environment and a respect for diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
  • English is a must.
  • High school diploma.
  • Must have the legal right to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to broadcast-specific protocols such as SRT, UDP, or similar transmission technologies is an asset.
  • A second language would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support the ENA technical operations team in delivering reliable, high-quality broadcast output across live news and production environments.
  • Gain direct exposure to the full range of broadcast infrastructure including but not limited to: physical cabling, equipment setup, IP-based transmission systems and emerging workflow technologies.
  • Contribute meaningfully to day-to-day operations while also participating in forward-looking work such as gear evaluation and test lab activities, evaluating gear and editing software.
  • Assist with cabling, equipment maintenance, and general production setup.
  • Support local news events and live productions under engineering staff supervision.
  • Operate and learn news editing tools and broadcast workflows.
  • Work with IP-based transmission technologies including LiveU, SRT, and UDP.
  • Learn physical broadcast infrastructure and signal routing.
  • Support configuration and troubleshooting of transmission setups.
  • Build and configure test or mock production environments.
  • Familiarize yourself with broadcast systems and internal workflows.
  • Document processes and assist with workflow improvements.
  • Spend time in a test lab assessing new equipment and emerging workflows.
  • Record observations and support engineering decisions with findings.
  • Compare gear performance against operational requirements.
  • Contribute to a collaborative and dynamic 24/7 news operation.
