About The Position

The Simplot Company is hiring a Chemical Engineering / Chemistry Intern in its Mining & Manufacturing department. Based at the Frontier Building in Pocatello, Idaho, the intern will support phosphate ore mining and the production of phosphate- and ammonia-based fertilizers. The work will involve developing new products and processes and refining existing processes, with duties tailored to whether the intern is pursuing a Chemical Engineering or Chemistry degree.

This is a full-time internship beginning in May 2027, with a preference for a duration of approximately eight months. The role provides college students with meaningful work experience and business knowledge. Work is performed under close supervision and may include lab and pilot-scale testing indoors and outdoors, data collection and preparation, project coordination assistance, and administrative support. The intern may also support multiple Mining & Manufacturing facilities in California, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming. No travel is required.

Requirements

• Be working toward a BS in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
• Have strong attention to detail.
• Be self-motivated and able to work in a team environment.
• Be able to keep up in a fast-paced work environment.
• Be fluent in Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine chemical engineering or chemistry work under close supervision, applying basic engineering or chemistry principles.
• Use computer-assisted software and equipment to perform engineering or chemistry tasks, as needed.
• Assist with laboratory and pilot-scale testing and evaluation indoors and outdoors.
• Collect and prepare data for evaluation.
• Assist with coordinating projects from feasibility through final plan preparation, as needed.
• Handle administrative duties.
• Provide support to staff members as needed.
• Provide support for multiple facilities across the Mining & Manufacturing business unit, as needed.
