Project Description: Interns needed to assist the Base Capital Projects organization while allowing them to gain insight, experience, and knowledge of the project engineering realm within power generation that will help inspire career direction and realize relevancy of their course studies to the world outside of school. The value added will be the work they are able to do as an intern in assisting project managers execute projects, but also the potential to hire on full time once they graduate as well as promoting Xcel Energy as a place of growth/opportunity. This position is for a June 1st, 2026 start. These positions may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel’s business needs.

Requirements

  • Current student, Junior status (as of Fall 2026) or higher.
  • Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering program, studying areas including but not limited to electrical, mechanical, civil, and chemical engineering.
  • Ability to communicate effectively; both written and verbally.
  • Must be self-motivated, have good technical skills, and ability to work well with others.
  • Able to commute to the T3 Denver HQ (3500 Blake St.) as well as nearby Xcel Energy generating facilities as required.
  • Access to a car would be necessary to access these facilities.
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)

Nice To Haves

  • 3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higher
  • Local to Denver, CO.
  • Interest in power generation and the energy industry

Responsibilities

  • Work with the engineering and project management staff to support capital project work for existing power generation facilities in the Colorado region to support on-going operations.
  • Will perform entry level engineering analysis doing tasks supporting both project management and construction.
  • Tasks include submittal coordination, drawing support, construction planning and oversight, schedule review, quality control support, safety observations, and vendor outreach and coordination, with some exposure to budgeting.
