This internship role is designed for students passionate about applied earth sciences who are eager to learn in a technically challenging and inspiring team setting. The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic record, relevant work experience, and a willingness to travel and work in diverse and remote conditions. BGC offers student interns the chance to develop practical skills and gain experience in geotechnical and geoscience consulting. Interns will engage in a mix of office and field-based project work for clients in the mining, pipeline, transportation, energy, and community sectors, under the guidance of technical experts. Fieldwork may include site investigations (drilling, testing, lab testing, geophysical surveys, instrumentation installation, river/stream inspection, geohazard assessment) and construction monitoring (dam, pond, ditch construction, fill placement, foundation excavation, assessment, approval, instrumentation installation and monitoring). Field stints can range from a few days to approximately two weeks in remote areas, involving multiple shifts or scheduled rotations. BGC aims to maximize field exposure for interns. Office work typically involves reporting and interpretation of field data, data management and entry, instrumentation data interpretation, and design contributions.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a relevant undergraduate degree in Civil (Geotechnical/Hydrotechnical/General) or Geological Engineering, Geoscience, Geology, Geophysics or a related field.
  • Excellent written, presentation and oral communications.
  • MS Office skills.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Ability to drive a field pickup truck.
  • A current passport.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site investigations including drilling, testing pitting, lab testing, geophysical surveys, instrumentation installation, river/stream inspection, and geohazard assessment.
  • Perform construction monitoring for dam, pond, and ditch construction, fill placement, foundation excavation, assessment and approval, and instrumentation installations and monitoring.
  • Prepare reports and interpret field data.
  • Support data management and data entry.
  • Interpret instrumentation data.
  • Contribute to designs.
