About The Position

Advanced Technology Systems Company (ATSC) is seeking a detail-oriented Engineering Draftsman to support the development and maintenance of engineering drawings and technical documentation for advanced aerospace and defense systems. The role translates engineering design inputs into clear, accurate, production-ready drawings and documentation, and helps maintain configuration accuracy throughout the product lifecycle. The Engineering Draftsman works with 2D/3D CAD tools, engineering drawing practices, revision control, and bills of material. The position reports to the Engineering Manager and works closely with Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and Program Management. The position is primarily performed in an office or engineering environment and requires regular use of a computer and CAD software. Occasional visits to laboratories, integration areas, or production spaces may be required.

  • Associate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent combination of education and relevant drafting experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience preparing engineering drawings and technical documentation in a mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or related environment.
  • Working proficiency with 2D/3D CAD software.
  • Ability to interpret engineering sketches, drawing markups, dimensions, tolerances, and technical specifications.
  • Understanding of engineering drawing practices, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and standard drawing conventions.
  • Experience creating and revising part and assembly drawings, parts lists, and bills of material.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage revisions and documentation accurately.
  • Ability to organize work, manage multiple drawing tasks, meet schedules, and communicate effectively with engineers and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently with engineering direction and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SolidWorks is strongly desired.
  • Experience with SolidWorks PDM or another product data management or engineering document control system.
  • Experience supporting aerospace, defense, military, or other regulated engineering programs.
  • Familiarity with engineering change requests/orders, configuration management, and technical data package release processes.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and applicable ASME drafting standards.
  • Experience preparing drawings for fabricated sheet metal, machined parts, brackets, enclosures, cable routing, or mechanical assemblies.
  • Familiarity with bills of material and engineering documentation practices used in ISO-controlled environments.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and committed to producing accurate, high-quality engineering documentation.
  • Able to identify drawing discrepancies, ask clarifying questions, and follow through on revisions.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to coordinate technical details with engineers and manufacturing personnel.
  • Flexible and responsive in a project-driven environment with changing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Create, update, and maintain detailed part, assembly, layout, and installation drawings from engineering sketches, models, markups, and design direction.
  • Develop and revise 3D CAD models and associated 2D drawings using SolidWorks or comparable CAD software.
  • Prepare drawing packages, bills of material (BOMs), parts lists, and related engineering documentation in accordance with ATSC procedures and applicable customer requirements.
  • Apply dimensioning, tolerancing, notes, materials, finishes, hardware callouts, and other drawing details as directed by Engineering.
  • Incorporate engineering changes and redlines; maintain drawing revisions and ensure released documentation reflects approved design changes.
  • Support the release and maintenance of engineering data in SolidWorks PDM or another product data management (PDM) or document control system.
  • Check drawings for completeness, consistency, clarity, and adherence to drafting standards before submitting them for engineering review and approval.
  • Coordinate with engineers and manufacturing personnel to resolve drawing questions, identify documentation discrepancies, and improve manufacturability and assembly clarity.
  • Support prototype builds, production transition, integration activities, and corrective actions by updating drawings and associated documentation as required.
  • Maintain organized engineering records and support configuration management, engineering change requests, and technical data package (TDP) activities.
