About The Position

The Civil Engineering group is seeking an Engineering Designer II to prepare engineering design drawings using AutoCAD and Revit in support of substation, underground, and overhead utility projects. In this role, the incumbent will perform computer-aided design and drafting work, create and revise engineering drawings, and support the design of more complex distribution lines and facilities as well as routine drafting and drawing design work for substations. As part of the application process, candidates will be required to answer supplemental questions when submitting their application. Please be advised, "Refer to resume" responses will not be accepted. Under general supervision, performs the design of more complex distribution lines and facilities and completes routine drafting and drawing design work for substations. Incumbents perform assigned tasks in all areas and may rotate through various assignments. The Engineering Designer II classification is the intermediate level of the Designer series. Employees in this classification perform the full scope of the line design process including the design of the more complex distribution lines and facilities. This classification is differentiated from the Engineering Designer I level by its ability to work on one's own producing basic line design jobs, and the complexity and technical difficulty of the work. Incumbents advance to the Designer III level by learning design and construction practices and processes necessary to perform higher-level design and coordination work. Employees are required to progress from Engineering Designer Level I to III over a 60-month period. It takes approximately 2 years to progress from an Engineering Designer I to an Engineering Designer II. It may take up to 3 years to progress from an Engineering Designer II to an Engineering Designer III, the journey level. Engineering Designer IV is a promotional position within the classification series.
