About The Position

We are looking for a Maintenance & Engineering Manager who moves our facility from reactive firefighting to world-class reliability. You must be a technical sharp-shooter, a calm leader under pressure, and a true partner to Operations. If you know how to build a proactive PM culture, lead a skilled team, and explain why a $50k upgrade today saves $300k in downtime tomorrow—we want to talk to you. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining effective preventive maintenance programs, supporting equipment improvement projects, managing maintenance resources, coordinating outside contractors, and providing engineering support for manufacturing operations. The position works closely with Operations, Production, Quality, Safety, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Finance to improve equipment performance and achieve business objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 7+ years in manufacturing engineering, maintenance, or reliability, including 3+ years managing technicians or technical teams.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting background on automated equipment and production systems.
  • Proven success building PM programs, utilizing CMMS software, and managing outside contractors and service providers.
  • Excellent team management, structured problem-solving, and clear cross-functional communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Food, beverage, packaging, or high-speed manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on familiarity with PLCs, industrial controls, and process utilities (refrigeration/chillers, steam/boilers, compressed air).
  • Experience with RCA, FMEA, TPM, or Lean methodologies to eliminate repeat failures.
  • Experience assisting with capital equipment selection, installation, and commissioning projects.

Responsibilities

  • Build a Proactive Culture: Shift plant operations from breakdown response to predictive and preventive maintenance (PM).
  • Root-Cause Focus: Track unplanned downtime, combat repeat failures, and champion a "fix the root cause, not the symptom" mindset.
  • Data-Driven Decisions: Use key metrics (PM compliance, emergency work %, maintenance cost per unit) to continuously improve plant efficiency.
  • Develop Techs: Recruit, mentor and retain strong performers. Crosstrain technicians while building clear shift-to-shift communication loops.
  • Partner with Operations: Work side-by-side with Production, Packaging, Quality, Safety, and Finance. You aren't just the team called when something breaks—you are an integrated operational partner.
  • Crisis Leadership: Serve as the calm, decisive voice during unexpected outages (filler drops, boiler trips, compressor failures).
  • Ask the right technical questions and guide troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, PLC/automation, and process utility systems.
  • Oversee key utility plant equipment including refrigeration/chillers, boilers/steam, compressed air, CIP/sanitation, brewery process equipment and packaging lines.
  • Prioritize work orders, manage backlog, schedule planned shutdowns, and optimize spare parts inventory.
  • Partner on CapEx projects: assist with design, contractor management, equipment installation, and commissioning.
  • Enforce strict OSHA compliance and embed safety into daily maintenance routines.
  • Manage the maintenance budget, labor costs, contractor spend, and utility consumption.
  • Justify investments using clear ROI and cost-of-downtime analysis.
