About The Position

Summary: Astemo Americas Inc. is seeking an entry-level Design Engineer to support the development of chassis related systems, including dampers, brakes, steering components, and associated software-enabled technologies. The Engineer I will work under the guidance of Senior Design Engineers and cross-functional teams, contributing to design activities, simulation work, prototype builds, and engineering documentation across the automotive product development lifecycle. This role is ideal for new graduates or early-career engineers looking to build foundational experience in mechanical design, automotive systems, simulation tools, and emerging AI-driven engineering methodologies. Job responsibilities The primary responsibilities of this position include: 1. Assist with prototype design and testing (10%) Assist with prototype design activities for multiple product lines (dampers, e‑motors, steering, brakes, etc.), including collaboration with senior engineers from multiple business units to analyze relevant requirements. Perform basic engineering calculations, create and update CAD models using tools such as SolidWorks and CATIA V4/V5, and assist senior engineers with laboratory and vehicle‑level testing activities under supervision. 2. Assist prototype builds at the component, sub-system and system levels (15%) Assist with prototyping‑related activities for internal and external (outsourced) fabrication of mechanical and/or electronic components, as well as subsystems and systems. Facilitate communication with the Prototype Engineering teams, support visits to supplier sites and external laboratories, track fabrication progress, and help ensure timely prototype delivery using established project management practices. 3. Assist in the development of technologies using simulation tools (10%) Assist with simulation and modeling tasks using MATLAB, Simulink, and VIGrade CarRealTime. Contribute to evaluating system performance, analyzing results, and preparing documentation for Senior Engineers and cross-functional team reviews. 4. Assist in AI-based engineering tool development (35%) Assist in the development and refinement of AI-based design and optimization tools for Astemo-related products. Help prepare datasets, run test cases, evaluate outputs, and document results under the direction of senior team members. Assist on the creation of AI Agents for engineering process improvements and support the creation of a framework for the deployment of these AI Agents across multiple business units. 5. Assist the development of Cross-BU demo vehicles (30%) Help develop and maintain engineering documentation needed for cross-BU demo vehicles across all project phases (requirements analysis, design, CAD, PoC/prototyping, testing and validation, demonstration, and user feedback collection for lessons learned improvements). Work with senior engineers from multiple business units and OEM customer teams to support technical reviews, demo related tasks, and benchmarking/reverse engineering activities. Additional Responsibilities Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, prototyping, manufacturing, and software engineering. Assist in preparing technical presentations, design documentation, and simulation reports. Support requirement gathering and communication with OEM customers under supervision. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including AI-based engineering workflows. ‑based engineering workflows. Manage assigned tasks with appropriate guidance and seek clarification proactively. Demonstrate strong teamwork, communication, and willingness to learn.
