About The Position

Dominion Energy is seeking an Engineer to join the Long-Term Operations Planning team within the System Operations Center (SOC). This team collaborates with the Strategic Operations Planning team to manage outage planning, reliability analysis, and recommend construction schedules for the next one month to one year. The role involves analyzing the transmission system, incorporating data like load forecasts, generation patterns, and outage information into PSSE/TARA and EMS-based studies. A key responsibility is developing accurate models for up to five years in the future, considering load growth, topology changes, and construction timelines. This position requires close collaboration with various teams including System Operations, SOC Outage Coordination, ET Planning, Project Management, and EMS Modeling. Prior experience in transmission planning is preferred. The role follows Dominion's hybrid office/work-from-home guidelines and may involve occasional project field visits and industry event participation.

  • Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
  • Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
  • Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
  • Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outage planning, reliability analysis, and recommend construction schedules over a timeframe ranging from one month up to one year into the future.
  • Analyze and study the transmission system over a 1-year period, incorporating data sources into PSSE/TARA-based and EMS-based load flow and N-1 contingency analysis studies.
  • Incorporate load forecasts, typical generation forecasts/patterns, existing transmission and generation outages, and key project-related outages into studies.
  • Develop more accurate models up to five years in the future, incorporating forecasts of load growth, planned changes to system topology, and aligning with necessary construction timelines.
  • Work closely with other teams, including System Operations, SOC Outage Coordination, ET Planning, Project Management, and EMS Modeling.
  • Participate in occasional project field visits.
  • Participate in relevant industry-related events to enhance skills and knowledge.
